Men in Sandals
Men wearing sandals is a debate that has been on for a few decades now and there are no definitive answers to it. Should men wear sandals? That is the question and the answer is neither a definitive yes nor a no.
Yet we come across men who are loafing around the beaches in Jamaica or walking down the pebbled streets in Sicily or just driving around cycles in Malaysia wearing sandals. They look very comfortable in them and definitely make a style statement.
So what is the verdict, one may ask. The entire debate revolves around a fight between the traditional versus the non traditional style of dressing up for men. And, many other different subjects pertaining to style are a part of this debate such as long hair on men, metro-sexuality, body art, tattoos and also processes to remove the latter like laser tattoo removal. It all comes down to whether to follow or not to.
The traditional and old world thinkers believe that wearing sandals can ruin a man’s personality and his first impression. Being able to see a man’s toes through his foot wear can be a real put off is the view held by many old world charmers. And therefore the answer for them is quite simple – wear sandals at your own peril of losing out on the first time right persona impact.
For the more modern and non-traditional man however, wearing sandals is a matter of comfort, ease and holiday mode. Wearing sandals means that feet are allowed breathing space and the walk or cycle can be enjoyed comfortably.
However, the kind of clothes one wears and more importantly the attitude that a man carries decides whether or not he can carry off sandals. Yes, wearing sandals and looking smart in them are two different things. The complete hipster man can carry off pretty much anything while the holidaying man needs to look like he is holidaying and infact enjoying his time off. For the casual look it is not imperative to have sandals on.
Whatever the choice for the occasion to adorn sandals, the one mantra to keep in mind before wearing them is to have clean pedicured feet. There can be no bigger put off than grown nails and unkempt feet in sandals for a man! Therefore, cut the nails and ensure that your feet are well creamed and clean before wearing sandals. Else chuck the idea completely and be happy in shoes!
