Smart Lunch

When I leave my office to head out for lunch I’ve got to look my best. I think the way you dress tells a lot about the business you do. So I make effort to not loosen my tie or roll my shirt during a summer lunch break.

I’m always slightly in fear of bumping into one my of clients looking like I couldn’t careless about my appearance. The other day I had this obsession revealed to me. There is an amazing curry house near where I work. The food tastes incredible. I decided to head there for an early lunch before my afternoon meeting.

I found myself a good space to hang out, with the sun pouring into the restuarant. I ordered a perfectly made meat curry. So I sat eating that reading my paper. Suddenly the clients I was planning to meet in the afternoon happened to walk into the restuarant. I immediatly stood up and greeted them. As I sat down, my designer tie managed to land directly into my meat curry. This was the worst impression I could have given the client at that point. All my efforts to look smart during lunch times had come undone.

After that occation I decided to not eat messy foods during the day at work. These days I tend to eat suchi, I’ve also found quite a few places who do great vegetarian recipes which aren’t messy. The irony is that since I’ve turned to a different diet, I now never seem to bump into clients at lunch. Maybe they spend their lunch breaks at the messy restuarants.
