What Men Shouldn’t Wear To the Office

Do you think that fashion tips are only for women? Think again. What men wear (or do not wear, as the case may be) impacts how seriously others take them, and could very well affect their rise up the pecking order in the office. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and you don’t want to ruin that because you’re sloppily dressed. Of course, this does not mean that you go to the extreme and opt for a home laser hair removal session so that your chest hair does not peek out from your shirt, just make sure you don’t commit the following fashion faux pas.
1. Sneakers with everything
If you are young and work in a creative industry such as advertising, wearing cool sneakers with a suit can be cool and attractive. But in most business environments, wearing sneakers with a suit just doesn’t work.
2. Pants without a belt
If you work in an office where business casuals are ok and you wear your shirt over your pants then you can avoid a belt, as long as your pants aren’t too low. But if you wear your shirt tucked into your pants, you most definitely need to wear a belt.
3. The wrong socks
Did you think that socks were an insignificant item of clothing? Think again. The wrong socks can totally destroy your image, even if you are impeccably dressed otherwise.
White socks are meant for sporting activities, not for business wear. Wear black socks with business clothes, even with jeans.
4. Personal Grooming
Your hair should always be clean cut and carefully styled. Avoid messy hairdos a la Robert Pattinson or sport a day old facial growth. If you do have a beard or moustache, it should always be well groomed. And for heaven’s sake, do NOT decide to start growing a beard in the middle of the week.
5. Business Casual
It is okay to wear jeans with polo shirts or casual button downs. A nice T shirt may also be acceptable, depending on the dress code of your office. Never wear t-shirts with funny slogans or loud colours to work.
